Day 1!
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
So, today was another good day in DC! We woke up later than expected, BUT we got some good, good, sleep! Probably a whole nights sleep, a sleep I havent had in a while! Amanda and I woke up, had our breakfast and left for the metro (subway). Parking was HORRIBLE! It took us forever to find a spot, we realized later (after driving around for 15 minutes) we realized we could park in the reserved parking... After that, we got our passes to get on the metro, which was rather clean, and finally, came out in the mall (it isn't an actual mall, its just called that) The video we took is larger than 100mb so we can't post it :/. Our first stop was the Holocaust Museum, talk about mind-boggling! It REALLY opened our eyes to stuff we NEVER could learn in Highschool! They had an actual rail-car that the Nazi's transported people to the concentration camps! They had the Zyclon B pellets used to kill the Jews, they had shoes, possessions, anything and everything you could think of, they had it! I was awestruck when we got to speak to an actual survivor woman who went into hiding for 3 years during the Reich's reign. It was crazy! We got to the washington monument and realized they were sold outta tickets :/. As we were leaving, someone walked up to us and gave us our tickets! Just random people who didn't want to go! What a view too! Amanda and I have decided to only post pictures on our facebook, to save time on here. After the monument, we walked up near Pennsylvania Avenue to get some grub. We ate at a place kind of like Panera Bread, only slightly worse, but wayyy more expensive! We got to talking with an Indian woman, from some tribe I couldn't spell/pronounce for my life, haha. She said she just got back from California, from some great bear spirit awakening ritual or something, I don't know. Anywho, she was really nice, and told us of her travels and said she was "sensing a bond between us, a bright, vibrant energy". She also, SOMEHOW knew that Amanda was pregnant without even looking at her belly, Amanda's belly was under the table and she was like "How far along are you?" :O spooky stuff, I'm here to tell you! She then gave me an "elder speech" about how I should honor our marriage, and love Amanda, and care for her, and how much she loves me, and stuff like that. It made Amanda and I smile and laugh. After the weird encounter with the woman, we went down Pennsylvania Avenue and before we reached the White House, we saw a motor-cade coming down the street. We took photos of it and we later found out that it was the Greek Prime Minister, President, dude! Cool stuff! I noticed the Greek flag and I was like, hmmm. Later on CNN I saw where he came and met with Obama, cool stuff! By this time the sun was setting, and it was getting cold, we headed back to the Metro and returned to our hotel room! Tomorrow we will finish our tour in the mall, and diverge out to the Smithsonian! Sorry for such a short and sweet post, but I don't want to be on the internet too long, it really distracts from the vacation, BYE NOW!

I really liked the photos that lined the walls in the Holocaust Museum. And I thought the children's part of the museum was done really well. Oh, and I also liked seeing the actual videos of Hitler & the Hitler Youth. That's something you don't really see too often (well, they never show videos of Hitler's Youth anywhere!) I personally think that everyone should take their children to DC for an education vacation at some point in their lives.. everyone needs to see the Holocaust Museum! It sure was eye-opening.
